I am a board-certified neurologist and board-certified vascular neurologist with twenty years in clinical practice in South Florida. I serve as Chief of the Division of Neurology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. I am the hospital’s Stroke Medical Director, a role I have held since 2008.
I built the Mount Sinai stroke program from the ground up. What started as a small initiative now serves the Miami Beach community as a Joint Commission approved Comprehensive Stroke Center. I continue to take active stroke call.
Alongside my hospital appointment, I lead Kovacs and Resnick, P.A. — one of the largest private neurology practices in South Florida. The practice cares for complex neurologic disorders from head to toe. Stroke. Alzheimer’s Disease. Parkinson’s Disease. Epilepsy. Migraine and chronic headache. Multiple sclerosis. Neuromuscular disorders. Neuropathy. Tremor. Concussion. Vertigo. Sleep disorders. Anxiety and emotionally driven neurologic symptoms. The practice also operates one of the most active botulinum toxin services in the region for migraine, spasticity, and cervical dystonia.
I trained at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Internal medicine internship. Neurology residency. Senior chief resident year. Condensed neuroimaging fellowship in MRI. A full neuromuscular fellowship.
Before medical school I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Emory University with a minor in religion. I completed a Florida Postgraduate Biomedical Sciences Master’s at Barry University. I received my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
I am board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Neurology (2006) and Vascular Neurology (2008). I hold MRI/CT and Neurosonology certifications from the American Society of Neuroimaging. I completed a visiting mini-fellowship in Neurosonology at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital.
My clinical expertise spans stroke systems of care, neuroimaging, neurosonology, migraine, botulinum toxin therapy, neurophysiology and EMG, neuromuscular disease, hospital-based neurology leadership, and program development.
I have been an Annual Grand Rounds lecturer at Mount Sinai Medical Center since 2006.
I oversee neurology education for the Internal Medicine residency at Mount Sinai. I direct neurology education for two psychiatry residency programs, one at Mount Sinai and one at Citrus Health Network. I personally supervise psychiatry residents rotating on neurology each month, teaching evaluation, diagnosis, management, and bedside clinical reasoning.
I created and lead daily multidisciplinary neuroscience rounds at Mount Sinai involving Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neuroendovascular Surgery.
In 2026 I was appointed to the Board of Governors at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
I speak about Brain and Mind in any room. Miami-based schools and universities. Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Psychiatry, and other medical Grand Rounds at programs around the country. Fire Rescue and first responder departments. The Jewish Community Center of Miami Beach and other cultural institutions. Assisted living facilities and senior centers. Corporate offices and work environments. Civic organizations and wellness centers.
Topics span the full range of neurology. Stroke. Alzheimer’s. Parkinson’s. Migraine. Epilepsy. Anxiety. Sleep. Concussion. What every clinic sees, every week.
The space I am teaching in most actively now is Healthy Mind and Longevity.
How the nervous system shapes how you feel, how you focus, how you sleep, how you remember, and how you age.
Why so many chronic symptoms carry an upstream story the brain is telling, and how learning to read that story changes the trajectory of someone’s health.
How to build a life where the brain stays calm, the body stays well, and the mind stays sharp into the later decades.
Living with longevity is living with quality.
I co-authored Practical Neuroimaging in Stroke: A Case-Based Approach with Alejandro A. Rabinstein, MD (Saunders/Elsevier, 2009). The textbook is used in residency programs nationally.
Additional publications include peer-reviewed work on polyneuropathy, deep tendon reflexes in peripheral neuropathy, anoxic encephalopathy, migraine with prolonged aura, Terson’s Syndrome in subarachnoid hemorrhage, and atypical presentations of posterior reversible encephalopathy. Journals include Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, Journal of Neurology, Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, and the Journal of the Peripheral Nervous System. Multiple presentations at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting.
A second book on brain health, emotional health, and neuroscience-based behavior change is in development.
I teach Positive Neurology.
Modern medicine is exceptional and I respect the advances in pharmacology, surgery, and neurodiagnostics. I also believe most of what people are looking for is already inside them. Compassion. Patient education. Lifestyle. Emotional regulation. The nervous system itself.
My approach is integrative. I match the tool to the diagnosis. Medications when they are the right answer. Lifestyle and behavior when they are. Both, when both are.
The work is the same in every room. I listen first. I show the mechanism. I give the patient back agency over their own brain.
In 2025 I founded The Healthy Mind, a neuroscience-based educational platform focused on brain health, emotional health, and behavior. The platform includes a podcast featuring conversations with physicians, public figures, artists, and leaders. Guests have included Andrea Bocelli, Romero Britto, Dr. Douglas McKay Wallace, and others.
The Healthy Mind reaches across YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. The work serves the same audience my clinic does. The patient sitting in front of me on a Wednesday afternoon. Multiplied by every screen that finds the channel.
I appeared in Michael Bay’s 2022 feature film Ambulance as a trauma surgeon. I am featured as a neurologist in the documentary We Are Storror (preview 2025, full release 2026), discussing the neurological basis of fear, high-risk behavior, and adrenaline.
